Inspired by Paul Auster's 1987 novel, In The Country of Last Things, and set in the future, the film portrays a surreal, dystopic world in which the federal government has closed New Orleans off from the rest of the country. I eagerly devour every one of his books that I can get my hands on. I don't know whether In the Country of Last Things is post-apocalyptic in the strict sense of the word. In The Country Of Last Things is Paul Auster's fifth novel (the fourth under his own name). And I have yet to encounter a book of his that I don't like. There is Anna, whom some will recognise as the central character from Auster's early novel In the Country of Last Things. Auster is into mental and emotional reflexes triggered by imaginative reasoning, just like Samuel Farr who is Mr Blank's doctor in this story, on a visit from In the Country of Last Things. To take for granted: to believe that it is true or accepted. Readers of this site know that Paul Auster is one of my favourite authors. In The Country Of Last Things, 2012.
